The Grove is located on the banks of the Wirribi Yaluk (Werribee River), which is the largest waterway in Victoria’s west. The river begins in Wombat State Forest on the Great Dividing Range and stretches 110 km before ending in Port Phillip Bay. Wirribi Yaluk was a source of sustenance for Bunurong people and still is a significant place for them today.

As you explore the area, look out for 10 signs that tell you more about what makes The Grove special. The signs were co-designed with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, whose are the Traditional Owners of the area here. Many of the stories on the signs describe how Bunurong people have cared for Country here for thousands of years. Each sign features an artwork by Lakeisha Clayton, a proud Mutti Mutti Bunurong woman who was born in Mildura and grew up in Brisbane. Lakeisha started painting when she moved to Bunurong Country in Melbourne and has created these artworks especially for The Grove.
